Reverend Pamela J. Pettyjohn

Rev. Pamela J. Pettyjohn came to us in mid-August 2020 to serve as our Intentional Interim Senior Minister. She has previously served in three previous Disciples of Christ congregations in the greater Louisville, KY, area, as both a Senior/Solo Pastor and as an Associate Minister. As a Master of Divinity graduate of Lexington Theological Seminary, her studies included congregational transformation and leading churches in adaptive change. She also received the prestigious McCaw Scholarship for Prophetic Teaching, Preaching, and Living, which is selected through the Disciples of Christ College of Regional Ministers.

First feeling a call to vocational ministry as a teenager, Pamela grew up in a very conservative independent Baptist congregation which did not recognize women's abilities to serve God in leadership roles. Thus, she earned a Bachelor’s in Marketing and worked as a retail manager before returning to school to earn an M.Ed. After serving as a teacher at both the elementary and middle school levels, she is grateful for God leading her to the Disciples of Christ denomination over 20 years ago, which she dearly loves, and then, nine years ago, to the opportunity to finally live into her true calling as a minister.

Pamela is passionate about nurturing gifts for Christian service and leadership in others, regardless of gender, and most definitely including children and youth as well. She believes that Jesus is the true Word of God and that he modeled how we should live by his concern for those who were the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized of his day. Pamela has a heart for building relationships, deepening discipleship, and planting seeds as a representative of Jesus Christ. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve, support, and lead our congregation in the sacred work of discernment and transition during our interim time between Senior Ministers.
